The Through My Eyes series was my first real attempt at novel-writing. The series has seven books, five of which are complete (but not yet published). A colorful story follows teenager Molly Parker through the trials of high school. Her struggles mirror that of the modern teen as she comes face to face with explosive friendships, peer pressure, drugs and alcohol, and modern norms that conflict with her Christian beliefs. Her greatest trials come from her life in a split home as she struggles to understand the role her relationships with her absent father and heartbroken mother play in determining who she is meant to be. The story is complicated by the mysterious Jake, who comes into Molly’s life for a purpose that only God could have planned.
“Jake” is no ordinary book. Literary critics sway to both sides of the spectrum when it comes to reviewing it, but I don't mind. You see, “Jake” is a special piece, a part of God’s plan for a new generation of spiritual Empaths.
I like to think of Jake as the first of a new genre of fiction, one I’m calling “Empathic Literature”.
We live in a busy world that emphasizes mental and physical work. Out society is desensitizing. Media attests to that. We are forgetting how to feel. We are forgetting how to be human. We are forgetting our purpose.
To love, as God loves us. A recent study suggests that we are, in fact, biologically wired to feel not only sympathetically, but empathetically. That’s right. God made us to actually feel each other’s feelings.
“Jake” and the novels to follow it are my response to this desensitization.
We are the movement. We are the change. We are the love.
Jake has made his rounds locally at over a dozen events encouraging Love and Change. Some of the events that I have organized or attended recently include:
Classroom visits featuring discussions about:
The Process of Self Publishing
Structuring a plan for realizing a dream
Embracing God’s purpose
Church Youth Group Presentations
Elevate Music Festival 2013
